David Gwynne Jones

David spent many happy holidays at Ovingdean and Llandudno chatting to old comrades. In the war he was member of the Royal Service Corps. In his work life he was an able and active man both as a Town Clerk and in his second career as a Solicitor. He was a man of immense generosity and conviviality, right up to his death at ninety one.

A truly lovely Uncle, full of fun and always had a story to tell. We will miss him greatly. During the second world war he served with the Royal Tank Regiment.

George Morrison Young had a long and rich life. Born in 1911 he was educated at St Dunstan’s College Catford and Jesus College Oxford. On graduation he taught at a prep school in Seascale and then at Blackpool Grammar School.

Gordon 'Bomber' Brown

This is a tribute to my dad who sadly passed away at home on October 18th 2009 aged 69. He spent many years in the Fleet Air Arm and also trained the prestigious Field Gun Crew. Every summer, the Field Gun Crew based at HMS Daedalus,Lee-on-Solent spent time with the St Dunstaner's, organising trips, events and generally a fun time.

Graham Carr

Graham was the fifth child of George and Mabel, born on St. George’s Day, 1943. He already had an older brother called George and so was called Graham, but every year would wear a red rose for St. George’s Day with pride.

1896 - 2009 St Dunstaner Henry Allingham has passed away peacefully at the age of 113. St Dunstan’s was privileged to have cared for Henry here at our Ovingdean Centre. We are all saddened by his loss and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family. He made many friends among the residents and staff at St Dunstan’s.

Jack John Patrick Thomas

Jack was born in North Wales on 14th March 1921. He was married to Margaret from 1959. They had two children, Bronwen and Bryn and two grandaughters Jessica and Olivia. Jack was a survivor of The Battle of Arnhem in World War Two, as he was a member of the 1st Airborne Parachute Regiment. Jack loved sport and jazz music.

John "Jack" Turner

John Turner, better known as Jack, was born in February 1919, just 3 months after the end of World War One. The eldest of 8 siblings, he grew up in the small Welsh village of Abercrave in the Swansea Valley, attending the local school and helping his Dad look after the pit ponies for the local mine.

John (Norman) Carne

John (known at school and in the Navy as Norman) Carne served in the Royal Navy primarily on HMS Ajax from around 1946 to 1949 Following a call to Ministry in the Church of England, and curacies in Rochester and Strood in Kent he served as a parish priest for 23 years in two parishes in North Oxfordshire (Middle Barton and Enstone respectively).

John Graham Day

John was part of the Great War Display Team - a prolific aircraft builder & experienced pilot. He lived a full & active life spending 10 years in the Royal Navy & then working with his father in the family business - but his passion was flying & building aircraft - particularly WW1 replica aircraft.

Tom Simmonds died on 31st January 2009 during life he was a keen supporter of St Dunstan's. He lost the sight in one eye during service with the 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards during the second world war. I believe that this Tribute Fund is a fitting memorial to him.

William Harold Morris

My dad served in The Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry 1935-1947. He was posted to India and the middle east, loved his regiment and his battalion. He was proud of his service all his life and maintained contact with his comrades. In later years macular degeneration robbed him of most of his sight and St Dunstan's, now Blind Veterans U.

William Alexander Leith

Bill Leith died on the 3rd March 2009 aged 80. He served in the RAF in the 1940s-50s, just missing WW11, although he was a cadet at the end of the war. He was sent to Palestine, Aden and Korea. Was captured in the latter and a prisoner for 18 months.

William Henry 'Bill' Turner

William, known as 'Bill' to his family and friends, sadly passed away on 5th May 2011 just a few days before his 89th birthday. Bill joined the RAF during the second world war as a rear gunner on Lancasters. He was also a civilian engineer in the Australian navy for many years until he lost his eye sight and had to retire aged 55.
